Kathryn Alguire, MD
After earning her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in E. Lansing, Michigan, Dr. Alguire completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago. A Medical Oncology fellowship was completed at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Dr. Alguire joined the practice at Cancer & Hematology Centers of Western Michigan in 2004.
Eric D. Batts, MD
Dr. Batts earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, Michigan where he also completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine. He completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at University Hospitals of Cleveland/Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Batts is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematology. He holds memberships in the American College of Physicians, American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Kent County Medical Society. Dr. Batts joined the practice of Cancer & Hematology Centers of Western Michigan, P.C. in 2007.
Brett T. Brinker, MD
Dr. Brinker is a graduate of Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, where he completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine. He completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, and also received his Master of Science in Clinical Investigation from Northwestern. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology. Memberships include the American Medical Association, American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Hematology. Dr. Brinker joined Cancer and Hematology Centers of Western Michigan in 2006.
Martin J. Bury, MD
Dr. Bury earned his medical degree from Wayne State University, Detroit. He then completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Boston University Hospital. A residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology were completed at the University of Michigan Medical Center. Dr. Bury is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. He has completed a preceptorship in Bone Marrow Transplantation at the University of Michigan Medical Center. While in practice for 13 years in Port Huron, he also served as a clinical assistant professor for Michigan State University. Prior to joining Cancer and Hematology Centers of Western Michigan in 2001, he was Regional Assistant Medical Director for Ortho-Biotech Pharmaceuticals, a division of Johnson and Johnson.
Current organizations to which he belongs include the American Medical Association, the Michigan State Medical Society, the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Michigan Society of Hematology/Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.
Alan D. Campbell, MD
After earning his medical degree from The George Washington University, Washington D.C., Dr. Campbell completed his internship and residency followed by a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Hematology, the American Medical Association and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He is also currently Medical Director of the Spectrum Health Cancer Program. Dr. Campbell served as assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center prior to joining Cancer and Hematology Centers of Western Michigan in 1991.
Mark G. Campbell, MD, MHA
Dr. Campbell is a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Biochemistry and Art. He earned his medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit and a Masters in Health Care Administration from the University of Colorado in Denver. He completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids and a fellowship in Medical Oncology at Wayne State University, Detroit. He is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Memberships include Kent County Medical Society, Michigan State Medical Society and American Medical Association. Dr. Campbell is a Board of Trustee of Cornerstone University, Grand Rapids, as well as a board member of the Spectrum Health Foundation. Dr. Campbell has been a member of Cancer and Hematology Centers of Western Michigan since 1980, and serves as the corporate president. He is the executive director of the Spectrum Health Regional Cancer Network.
Thomas Gribbin, MD
Dr. Gribbin is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, where he completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine. He completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematology. Dr. Gribbin is a member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society for Clinical Oncology, the American Federation for Clinical Research and the American Association for Cancer Research. He is currently Medical Director of the St. Mary’s Cancer Center. He served as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor prior to joining Cancer and Hematology Centers of Western Michigan in 1998.
Madhuri Kakarala, MD, PhD
Dr. Kakarala earned her medical degree, as well as her PhD in nutrition, from Michigan State University in Lansing, MI. She fulfilled her fellowship at the Hematology/Oncology divisions of Michigan State University and the University of Michigan. Dr. Kakarala is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, is a Registered Dietitian, and is Oncology/Hematology Board Eligible. She holds memberships in the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Dietetic Association, and the American Association for Cancer Research. Dr. Kakarala conducts NIH and Komen Foundation funded research in cancer prevention and serves on the ASCO Cancer Prevention Committee. Dr. Kakarala joined Cancer & Hematology Centers of Western Michigan, P.C in 2012.
Nehal Lakhani, MD, PhD
After earning his Ph.D from the National Institutes of Health-Medical College of Virginia, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Michigan State University Grand Rapids and his fellowship training was completed at the National Cancer Institute/ National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
Dr. Lakhani is Board Certified in Hematology and Oncology and Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He holds memberships in the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Society of Cancer Research, among others. Dr. Lakhani joined the practice of Cancer and Hematology Centers of Western Michigan in 2011.
Latha Polavaram, MD
After earning her medical degree from Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati, India, Dr. Polavaram completed her residency at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center in Detroit, MI. She then participated in a Bone Marrow Transplant Fellowship and completed her Hematology/Oncology Fellowship, both at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Dr. Polavaram is Board Certified in Oncology, Internal Medicine, and Geriatrics. Dr. Polavaram joined Cancer & Hematology Centers of Western Michigan, P.C in 2012.
Carol Peterson, MD
Dr. Peterson earned her medical degree from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI and fulfilled her fellowship and residency at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. Dr. Peterson is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Oncology. She holds memberships in the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Michigan Medical Society, and the Michigan Society of Hematology-Oncology. Dr. Peterson joined Cancer & Hematology Centers of Western Michigan, P.C in 2012 and sees patients in the Ludington and Manistee Area.
Timothy J. O’Rourke, MD
A graduate of the University of Michigan School of Medicine, Dr. O’Rourke completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematology. He is a member of numerous organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. O’Rourke served as Chief of Hematology/Oncology Service at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, before retiring from the U.S. Army as a Colonel in the Medical Corps. He has also served as principal investigator for the Grand Rapids Community Clinical Oncology Program. Dr. O’Rourke joined Cancer and Hematology Centers of Western Michigan in 1996.
Eric Santos, MD
After earning his medical degree from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City, Philippines, Dr. Santos completed his Residency at the State University of New York in Stoneybrook and his fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the Winship Cancer Institute in Atlanta, GA. He previously held the position of Chief Resident at the University of Connecticut. He holds memberships in the American Society of Clinical Oncology as well as American Society of Hematology. Dr. Santos holds interests in Lung Cancer as well as Cancer Genetics and DNA Methylation. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Oncology and Hematology. Dr. Santos joined Cancer & Hematology Centers of Western Michigan, P.C in 2012.
William L. Scott, MD
Dr. Scott earned his medical degree from the University of Vienna Medical School, Vienna, Austria. He completed a rotating internship at State Hospital Oberwart, Oberwart, Austria. A six-month rotating internship and first year Internal Medicine residency were completed at Saint John Hospital Medical Center in Detroit. He went on to complete his second- and third-year Internal Medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. A hematology fellowship was completed at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York, after which he also served a Tumor Immunology Research Associate at their Cancer Center. A Medical Oncology fellowship followed at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Scott is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology.
Current organizations to which he belongs include the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the Michigan State Medical Society, the Kent County Medical Society and the Michigan Society of Hematology and Oncology. Hikmet Sipahi, MD
A graduate of Michigan State College of Human Medicine in East Lansing, Michigan, Dr. Sipahi completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Southwestern Michigan Area Health Education Center, Bronson Methodist Hospital, Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He completed a fellowship in Medical Oncology at M.D. Anderson Hospital, Houston, Texas. Dr. Sipahi is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. He is a member of the American Medical Society and the American Society for Clinical Oncology. Dr. Sipahi had been in private practice since 1987 before joining Cancer and Hematology Centers of Western Michigan in 2008.
Amy C. Vander Woude, MD
Dr. Vander Woude received her medical degree from Wake Forest University Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. Following completion of clinical and research fellowships at Brigham & Women’s Hospital/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School, she returned to the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center where she served as an attending physician. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematology. She is a member of the American Medical Society, the American Society of Hematology, the American Society for Clinical Oncology, the American College of Physicians and the Kent County Medical Society. Dr. Vander Woude joined Cancer and Hematology Centers of Western Michigan in 1999.
Kathleen Yost, MD
Dr. Yost received her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School (Inteflex Program) in Ann Arbor. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center and St. Mary’s Mercy Medical Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A primary care faculty development fellowship was completed at Michigan State University, East Lansing, and a Medical Oncology fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Yost is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Memberships include the Michigan Society of Hematology/Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Medical Association, the Michigan State Medical Society and the Kent County Medical Society. She is principal investigator of the Grand Rapids Clinical Oncology Program and chairs the Cancer Advisory Committee for the Spectrum Institutional Review Board. Dr. Yost has been in private practice since 1989 and joined Cancer & Hematology Centers of Western Michigan in 2003.
